Easy to Speak

Aaahh, that's more like it...a nice Ale (for myself) and a Cider (for the mrs.) at your friendly "Speakeasy". Well Old Chumley's (Bedford St. West Village) (http://nymag.com/listings/bar/chumleys/) a left over from the Prohibition days, is still serving up cold beer at pre-1920's-depression-prices. Can't complain. In the days of yore during prohibition, assorted mafia such as Lucky Luciano and our good friend - or maybe relative (heres hoping)...Meyer Lansky - set-up such gathering places in quiet corner's of New York to avoid the cops. The furniture is still from the 1920's (as is the urinal - hehe)...but what the hey, its cozy, smelly, musty and the sawdust kept blowing up your nose....just what you need when you're trying to enjoy a quiet one.
